Nice article a lot of issues to mull over
Hope bickell is gone soon
Really like TVR and hope if he gets beat out its not because his injuries are effecting his game
As for Kane why would the hawks hurt his reputation by keeping him out of camp with no charges against him. To me better to deal with this now then during the season. Deal with it now and hope this issue goes away

Thanks for the update JJ. Super excited for camp to start with all the new faces. However, I don't see how Plugblad will ever 'put it together' let's hope he is packaged off to Arizona with Bickell

Good stuff JJ. You hearing any buzz about some of the PTO's Paille, Lubo, Hejda and their chances of making the club?

Speaking of the third pairing, the Hawks feel this could be the year David Rundblad puts it together and becomes a solid contributor.

Here's to hoping the pixie dust works for Runblad

There's certainly rumors Rundblad has ability. Nah screw it.. its a fact.. he stinks...

All kidding aside, great insight as always JJ. I am curious to hear the spinjob from the Hawks brass at Thursday's presser and also what Kane has to say as its being reported he'll address the media. Maybe they all know something we don't know and that this thing will be resolved in the next 24-48. Even if it does, I agree that this isn't over as far as Kane and his long term future in Chicago.

Good update. If the rumor on Bickell turns out to be true, I will be happier than finding out Kane is cleared of all possible wrong doings. He has been invisible for the past two seasons. On most nights, I would call my brothers after the game to ask if Bickell was even playing. Guy doesn't play to his strengths all the time, has hands like cinder blocks, can't skate with speed, and his "heavy shot" was M.I.A.

I love reading your stuff daily Johnny, but Runblad???? Oh Geeeeeeezzzz!
TVR , don't think he has anything to worry about, all those PTO guys coming in are for 6-7 slots.
Rosy? Mid year, then to Rockford to get ready for April if we are in the mix?
Kopecky now? How many spots do we have ? I think Paille makes it , what about a spot for Danault once he is ready to go?
Bickell? I can only hope??

JJ can you elaborate on your estimation that the Hawks will miss the playoffs? Is that your "surprise" miss or do you think they are likely to miss?

Brian Bickell is big, dumb and misunderstood of course that is why he loves pit bulls. I will miss him if he is traded.

Yikes... Daley's hip may not be healing as quickly as everyone hoped... Would it really have been so bad to bring Johnny O back? I guess the extra $400k that Oduya costs would have put the Hawks right up against the cap and make them unable to sign a 7th defenseman.

So after 2, 7, and 4, who are 4-6 on D to start the season? Gustafsson, Visnovsky/Hejda, and Rundblad? With TVR as #7?

I imagine if they are taking Bickell it is going to be with some other assets.

Yeah andwe're gettin John Scott back to dress against the Blues, Ducks & Kings, now on a serious note...I"ll believe it when I see it! I would like to see Danault or Hartman then get that roster spot.

"But according to the Tribune, those sources say both sides feel wronged and have threatened to walk away."

This is what I believe is the biggest "problem" holding up a settlement, even more so than money.

As for Runblad, we will see.

As for TVR, he hasn't shown me much of anything. Those first 19 games he was well protected and didn't display any great mental or physical prowess. Now, he could certainly settle in and become a good player, but I'm not sold on it. Plus, he has suffered a major injury almost every season going back to his pre-College days.

I heard that Rozy can't get the inflammation out of his injured ankle, and that most of his cardio work has been on the bike and not on skates.

Have any of you noticed that more and more the kind of players that Stan Bowman is bringing in, or trading for reflect Coach Q's preferences and needs? This is a good sign in my books.

I really like the Hartman kid, I hope he sticks.

As for the Hawks and Kane, as JJ said, regardless of how this plays out over the next month, this situation is NOT done in the eyes of Rocky Wirtz. We will hear what we hear tomorrow.

Finally, any deal for Bickell will involve the Hawks having to take back some of the salary, even if that involves another "bad" contract coming to Chicago.

Camp opens Friday!

If trading Bickell to Arizona requires the Hawks to take back a bad contract - who would that be? I just looked at Arizona on the GeneralFanager website and with the exception of the Pronger contract (which is more than Bickell so I doubt it's that), the only other contract that could be considered "bad" is Nicklas Grossman with an AAV of $3M and I'm not even sure that's all that bad. So maybe the Hawks have to retain part of Bickell's salary?

Eh ... whatever ... press conference tomorrow and training camp Friday. Things are picking up.

Very interested to see if there's a Bickel trade.

And, this from Sports Illustrated - Kane's attorney once again denies any settlement talks are currently taking place or have taken place in the past.

The narrative this evening coming from Kap and Pat Boyle on Sports Talk Live and Edie O is that they trust Hawks management and their decision about Kane coming to camp

I personally felt TVR showed amazing poise for a rookie in his first 19 games. Being a 5-6 dman, aren't you almost always protected, especially as a rookie? He seemed confident and made some really solid plays in my eyes. Never really looked baffled out there. I personally hope he can stay healthy though. All I can say, is thank god hockey talk is starting to over take TMZ talk here. I missed it too much.

It seems like what we're really watching here is negotiations game-theory in action. The accuser has the advantage if Kane has to stay away from hockey so it comes out that Kane is going to come to camp, advantage Kane. But now there is the supposed pressure to get a deal done before the press conference tomorrow or before camp starts Friday, advantage accuser. I don't think the accuser wants the case to go to the grand jury because if they vote against charges, she loses leverage, and if they vote for charges, the trial could be a very difficult experience for her. Kane doesn't want it to go to GJ either because of the risk of indictment.

The Blackhawks are playing their own game too. Trying to keep Kane away from camp might not be worth the fight, especially if it looks like resolution is coming soon. He's an asset and they are protecting their asset. Does he get traded now, this season, in the next couple of years, after that, or never? I'm so curious about what's going to happen next. It's not as good as actually hockey, but it's been fun speculating (even though I've been mostly wrong.)
